Mrs. Butu Galcha, a resident of Idedo, Yirgacheffe has always been a coffee farmer. He started working on his father’s plantation at an early age, and later inherited the small farmland. The farm has expanded and now has an area of 6.6 hectares. The terrain here has the characteristic red tropical soil.
Coffee is hand-picked when the cherry is ripe and dry-fermented, then dried on raised beds to allow optimal aeration. Drying usually takes 12 to 14 days. In 2022, she was the 16th winner of the Ethiopia COE. Mrs. Galcha is the mother of six children, the eldest, is a teacher and coffee producer while her younger sister, helps her mother on the farm.
