PERU – Cosecha de Mujer
The name “Cosecha de Mujer,” meaning “women’s harvest,” highlights the hard work of women farmers on the farm and at home with childcare, food preparation and more.
The Coop. Prosperidad de Chirinos, ffounded in 1968, has done an excellent job assessing gender-based challenges and structuring Cosecha de Mujer activities to address these inequalities. The program focuses strongly on skills training in leadership, agriculture, coffee quality improvement and small business management. Part of the program also includes support for food agriculture for self-sufficiency.
The name “Cosecha de Mujer,” meaning “women’s harvest,” highlights the hard work of women farmers on the farm and at home with childcare, food preparation and more. There is an integrated award of $15 per 69 kg bag intended to support the Cosecha de Mujer program.
Cosecha de Mujer offers a wide range ofprogrammes and training courses for women, including financing, health projects, training and more. They offer leadership training for women and young people, a food and craft fair. There is also a youth committee that focuses on the support and empowerment of young producers. A partnership with the National University of Jaén supports the university education of 10 children of cooperative members each year.
