Coffee arrives in Martinique, an ‘island in the Antilles (French colony).

The Dutch made a gift to the French government of a beautiful coffee plant. The story goes that it was Captain Gabriel De Clieu who transported the precious seedling from France to Martinique by the innovative vessels of the French fleet, crossing the impassable and unpredictable Atlantic Ocean.
