The Coop. Prosperidad de Chirinos, founded in 1968, has done an excellent job assessing gender-based challenges and structuring Cosecha de Mujer activities to address these inequalities. The program focuses strongly on skills training in leadership, agriculture, coffee quality improvement and small business management. Part of the program also includes support for food agriculture for self-sufficiency.
The name “Cosecha de Mujer,” meaning “women’s harvest,” highlights the hard work of women farmers on the farm and at home with childcare, food preparation and more. There is an integrated award of $15 per 69 kg bag intended to support the Cosecha de Mujer program.
